Strategic Partnership

The Melbourne Veterinary School is partnering with Alert Equine AI on a groundbreaking research project, Artificial Intelligence Algorithms to Predict Risk of Injury in Racehorses. This initiative aims to address the urgent need for predicting limb injuries caused by over- or under-training, helping to prevent catastrophic and career-limiting injuries. Using GPS and 4-point movement sensors embedded in saddlecloths—developed by Alert Equine AI specifically for equine application—AI algorithms will analyze cumulative data on speed, gait, and stride characteristics to generate a risk matrix. This system will enhance racehorse welfare by providing trainers with a simple interface that alerts them when injury risk becomes high, allowing for timely intervention.

Our research team has conducted detailed pilot trials using Alert Equine AI's technology on both treadmills and racetracks, confirming its safety and accuracy in recording movement parameters such as distance, speed, and gait. The integration of AI with these advanced sensors represents world-leading technology, and we are excited to refine and apply it in our research to improve racehorse health and performance.
